Held in the stunning 18th-century L’hôtel de Maisons in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, this year’s Design Miami Paris delivered an extraordinary curation, seamlessly blending history and modernism. The event captured the energy surrounding today’s growing fascination with collectible design.
Exploring the Jean Prouvé Prefabricated House
A standout experience for me was stepping inside Jean Prouvé’s prefabricated house. This immersive experience offered a glimpse into his ingenious approach to architecture—a seamless blend of practicality and artistry that feels just as relevant today. The sale of this house for over €1 million underscored its timeless appeal and modern influence.
Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Cultural Exchange
Materiality and craftsmanship were central themes throughout the fair, with designers challenging traditional materials in innovative ways. Galerie Friedman Benda showcased Fernando Laposse’s avocado-skin cabinets, exemplifying sustainable design, while MycoWorks introduced REISHI™, a mycelium-based material that sparked conversations around organic materials in contemporary settings. As the world advances towards sustainability, these designers remind us that they’re the ones who will shape how these materials integrate into our daily lives.
The fair also celebrated biomorphic forms. Giulia de Jonckheere’s Gunnera Tables, modelled after giant plant leaves, showcased the harmonious intersection of nature and design. While literal in their interpretation, these pieces reflect the artistry and skill required to bring such intricate forms to life.

Cultural exchange was a hallmark of Design Miami Paris. Galerie Eric Philippe offered an insightful dialogue between American Modernism and Swedish design, while Thomsen Gallery celebrated the intricacy of Japanese bamboo artistry. Each exhibit highlighted cross-cultural narratives, deepening our appreciation for global craftsmanship.
